Prescriptions

All prescription medicines legally require a signed prescription from your Veterinarian.

Your vet is legally obliged to provide you with a prescription for an item that they would sell you themselves.

Most vets will charge a fee for writing a prescription. As this fee varies you will need to check with your vet what their fees are.

We can only supply the quantity of medication that your vet has prescribed. Once this quantity has been dispensed the prescription is then 'fulfilled' and a new prescription will be required before we can dispense any more.

You can ask your vet to supply you with a 'repeat' prescription and most vets are happy to do this. A 'repeat' prescription will have a quantity of the medication (usually enough for a months treatment) and then state how many times this can be repeated (usually 2 or 5 repeats) to cover treatment between check ups. You can then either purchase the full quantity of medication or we can keep the prescription on file and you can purchase as required. It is up to your vet to decide the frequency of the check ups that your pet requires.

Under current legislation your vet cannot insist on extra check ups or tests for clients who choose to buy elsewhere, other than the check ups or tests they would require to supply the medication themselves.

We legally cannot dispatch an order for a prescription item until we have received the prescription.

Many vets prefer to use their own prescription form and the vets prescription is perfectly acceptable, or you can print a blank prescription form and you can get your vet to complete it.

This can be posted, faxed* or scanned* and emailed to us. (Please see our contact details below)

Follow these steps to place your order:

 1. Make sure you have a valid prescription from your Veterinary Surgeon

 2. Place your order  - this can include both prescription and non-prescription items.

 3. Post, fax or email your prescription to us and make us aware of your Vetmedsplus order number.

*If you are ordering a 'controlled drug'  (i.e. Epiphen) the current legislation is different from above

1. The full quantity of medication allowed on the prescription must be purchased within 28 days of the date the prescription was signed.

 2. The original prescription must be posted to us. We cannot accept a prescription for controlled drugs by any other method.

We are unable to make any exceptions to these regulations.
